Master artist Rowan LeCompte created is first window for this cathedral at the age of 16 and is now working on his last window for the building at the age of 83.

“Let There Be Light” is a creation story…or rather a story about creation.  It follows the work of two extraordinary men who have worked together to create the divine light that emanates from many of the stained glass at Washington National Cathedral.

Diter_small

Master craftsman Dieter Goldkuhle immigrated form Germany to the US to seek work in a trade that has been in his family for generations.  He has fabricated many of the windows Rowan has designed.

colums

These two characters are polar opposites – one the care-free artist, the other a maticulous craftsman with an eye toward perfection.  Working together has not always been easy but the fruits of their labor have produced some of the most beautiful stained glass windows in the world.

While the film’s basic story line follows the struggle to create this last great masterpiece, it takes side trips into the world of stained glass.  It will visit Dieters ancestral home in Germany to see the earliest works of stained glass in Europe.  Seeking to understand the cross-cultural influences, we will see how the modern movement of stained glass in Germany changed forever the style of work that was being done at Washington national Cathedral.

Within the Cathedral itself there is a virtual history of the medium. The stories told in the glass, ranging from the creation of the universe, to the Apollo !! moon landing, are told in styles that depict a range of cultural influences.   The building itself hosts a broad spectrum of events that cross ethnic, religious and national boundaries. The effect the light from the windows has on these events is powerful.

“Let There Be Light” is an inspiration story that illustrates how the struggle of creating art can yield magnificent results that influences countless individuals in profound ways.

Up From the Shadows

Up from the shadows is a film done for the Boston Indo-Chinese Psychiatry clinic.  The film documents the formation of a troupe of puppeteers who work with traditional Cambodian shadow puppets. This art form was nearly wiped out during the time of the killing fields in Cambodia.  Doctors at the clinic found that reviving traditional storytelling techniques helped their patients reconnect with a culture that they had been forced to abandon.

A Video Guide to Quilting.
"In this video, nine New England quilting teachers invite us to join them in an old-fashioned fireside quilting bee. They share their joy and expertise with the novice quilter, guiding her through seven lessons. The step-by-step instruction is enhanced by tight camera shots that capture every detail and by excellent graphics. These delightful, good-natured women leave nothing to puzzle the novice. They urge experimentation with a variety of design placements, needle and thread selections and thimble choices, and they share mistakes and their solutions. Practical tips abound. As the women work, they share their preferences for various techniques, as well as the unusual sources of their design inspirations. A bibliography, a list of quilting instructors, and a mini- quilt show accompany the credits. This video is a tremendous boon to the would-be quilter who is unable to attend traditional classes. I enjoyed every minute of it."                  THREADS MAGA ZINE - Alice Korach

power of money

“The Power of Money” is documentary film that will dramatically illustrate the growth, impact and potential of the Socially Responsible Investment movement.

From South Africa to global warming this is a multi-trillion dollar global movement that is changing history. It will answer a fundamental question for viewers: How can my investments change the world and still make money for me? This film will be the foundation of a multi-media platform that will support a variety of institutions orbiting the SRI universe. It will create effective communication tools that will help to increase the size of this universe.

“Battery Park” is a feature length documentary film which will take viewers inside this space, for a close-up view of the compelling contest that plays out inning by inning, day in and day out, between pitcher, catcher and batter. It is precisely this repetition that makes this battle so interesting. It is a chess match between people who know each other intimately. In documenting two sets of games between the Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees we will capture the micro-dramas that make up the grand drama of one of sport’s greatest rivalries.
