THEATER

Culture Wrap revolves around world cultures.
The theater performances we highlight explore global cultures and multicultural communities in your neighborhood and in societies around the world.
We focus on stories that show that diversity can strengthen us instead of weakening and dividing us.
It is about finding common ground,
and at the same time honoring the individual in each of us.
When my father flew into the night
A surreal fairy tale about the courage to stick your neck out, spread your wings, and fly.
Nour often dreams about her father, who stayed behind in the country where she was born. In her dream, her father stands in the moonlight and looks at the ocean. Slowly, he bends his knees and spreads his arms. Wings appear. He breathes in, pushes off, and… flies.
But Baba never came back to her and Mom. Maybe his wings grew tired and he got stranded somewhere. Nour wants to save him, and to do that, she has to escape from the asylum seeker center.
Her escape attempts fail time and again. Until one evening, when she has that same dream again, she wakes up with a start and sees something strange. She has grown wings herself.
“Baba, I’m coming!”
Through (film) images, music, and puppets, you are taken on an adventure beyond the walls of the asylum seeker center, beyond the borders of the Netherlands, in search of Nour's father.
